Android 11: Google starts talking about the next version of its OS

Android 11 begins to point the tip of its nose: Google refers to it bluntly in the official application of the Android Dev Summit, a conference for developers. References to Android R had already been identified in the source code of the AOSP project.

Google is already starting to talk about Android 11, the next version of the mobile OS. And the next iteration will obviously be at the heart of discussions at the Android Dev Summit conference that will take place at the end of October. Google has created an official application, in which we discover a conference entitled

“Prepare for the scope of storage [scoped storage in English, note] in Android 11” –  conference to be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019, from 9:30.

The subject of the conference is the new model of data storage introduced by Android 10 and that will likely be changed in Android 11 following the return of developers. Scoped storage changes the way applications access storage and manage data. Each of them has access only to what they need when you give them permission: a photo application, must be able to access your photos, and a media player must be able to access your videos and your music, for example.

If you do not validate permissions, the application can still store data in its own sandbox, which fades as soon as you leave it. But the problem is that for some applications, the adaptation to this new storage model is far from trivial. Of course, what is quite surprising is that the mention of Android 11 appears in full in the application. Usually, Google prefers to use code names upstream of the presentation. Moreover, references to Android R have already been identified in the source code of the AOSP project.
